Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition Demo Arrives 2 November

A free demo of Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy arrives on 2 November, ahead of the full release on 12 November 2026. Nintendo revealed the date in a Pikmin-themed Direct hosted by Shigeru Miyamoto, Game Informer reported.

That same broadcast made 1 November an annual Pikmin Day.

My Nintendo News noted that the Direct went live on 31 October in the UK, which was already 1 November in Japan. Nintendo pegged the stream to Pikmin Day for exactly that reason.

Why 1 November is Pikmin Day

Miyamoto, Nintendo's creative fellow and the creator of the series, tied the date to the original Pikmin on GameCube in 2001.

Red, blue and yellow Pikmin debuted in that first game. "If you imagine those three Pikmin as the number one, that makes November 1st, Pikmin Day!" Miyamoto said in the Direct, according to DualShockers.

DualShockers added that the day will recur every 1 November. It joins other fan-calendar dates such as MAR10 Day and Pokémon Day.

What the demo includes

The demo covers the game's opening area, Sunspeckled Terrace, plus two stages of Dandori Academy. Save data carries over to the full game, so nothing is lost.

Nintendo is also hosting a Treehouse presentation of the Switch 2 Edition, which streams on its official YouTube channel.

Switch 2 Edition features

The Switch 2 version has improved visuals and uses the console's built-in microphone for voice commands. Game Informer said players can call out lines such as "Rush" or a command telling Oatchi, the Rescue Corps' dog, to get to work.

Dandori Academy is a new mode built around challenges and treasure collection, finishing with an exam. Players earn medals based on how they perform, DualShockers said.

Game Informer described the mode as essentially time trials. Players can practise freely. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, though, they get a single attempt to post their best time.

Passing exams also unlocks in-app cave maps. Those tie into the mobile game Pikmin Bloom, which is getting a Secret Caves update in Winter 2026. Cave Maps arrive attached to postcards. Players then send Pikmin in to fight creatures and win treasure.

Shorts, a guest and the back catalogue

Nintendo Pictures and Miyamoto unveiled a new animated series called Hello! Pikmin. The first short aired during the Direct. Two more episodes arrive this month.

From December, one episode will be released each month on the Nintendo Today app and other Nintendo channels.

Miyamoto also brought actress Fuka Koshiba onto the broadcast. Koshiba is best known as the voice of Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service, and she knits Pikmin hats that she shares on social media. She introduced the first short, in which a Pikmin interacts with a toad.

Game Informer said the presentation reminded viewers that every Pikmin game is available on Switch and Switch 2.

Nintendo made no announcement about Pikmin 1 and 2 joining the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library on Switch 2, though both can be bought individually on the eShop.

Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy launches on 12 November 2026.
