Final Fantasy 14 Evercold Officially Delayed to February 2027

One of 2027's biggest releases has been pushed back, as Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy 14's Evercold expansion has been delayed, despite only being a few months from launch.

Evercold is the upcoming sixth paid expansion for Final Fantasy 14 and the second following the conclusion of the original storyline in Endwalker. In Evercold, the Warrior of Light and their allies travel to a world known as The Fourth, whose land has been devastated by inhospitable freezing weather, forcing the people to live on floating ships. This continues the ongoing storyline about exploring the multiverse of Final Fantasy 14, with the Warrior of Light visiting new lands and facing powerful foes from beyond the borders of Eorzea.

Final Fantasy 14 Evercold Delayed To February 2027

The Evercold expansion for Final Fantasy 14 was originally set to be released in January 2027, kicking off a huge year for JRPGs, especially those produced by Square Enix. Sadly, it was announced during the October 2026 Fan Festival in Japan that the release date for Evercold has been pushed back, and it will now launch on February 23, 2027, with a tentative early access date of February 19.

Thankfully, the delay isn't that huge, and it's better that fans learn of it now than shortly before release. Endwalker also faced a delay ahead of launch, and while it was only for two weeks, it was announced only a month before, at which point fans had already booked time off work, just to be able to experience the story uninterrupted.

What Evercold's Delay Means For The Final Fantasy 7 Remake Crossover

One question that now has to be raised is how the Evercold delay will affect the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake crossover Raid series, known as "Beyond the Lifestream". Initially, fans thought that the Raid series would begin roughly around when Final Fantasy 7 Revelation launches on April 8, 2027. Barring a Revelation delay, it seems that the Final Fantasy 7 content will be arriving in Evercold later than originally imagined, as most assumed it was happening as part of a cross-promotion.

Regardless, the "Beyond the Lifestream" event is one of the most exciting aspects of Evercold, even more so than the Neon Genesis Evangelion crossover that's also planned. While fans might be waiting longer to get their hands on Evercold, they'll still have plenty of awesome content to experience in 2027.
