God of War Laufey launch delayed to May 20

The deceased second wife of Kratos and the mother to Atreus has apparently gotten stuck in some afterlife traffic.

As reported by Game Informer, the upcoming God of War spinoff game God of War Laufey has been delayed by publisher Sony and the devs over at Santa Monica Studio. This delay of the PlayStation 5 exclusives comes five months after the game’s reveal at PlayStation’s June State of Play showcase. In fact, it was the finale of the showcase, accompanied by a 23-minute gameplay reveal trailer.

For those who may not be in the know about who Laufey is, she’s better known by her shorthand name Faye. She became Kratos’s second wife in between the events of God of War 3 and the GoW 2018 reboot. She passed away before the reboot, with Kratos and Atreus sending her off at the beginning of the 2018 title. Laufey will pick up right after the beginning of the reboot title, showing her new adventures in the afterlife fighting new enemies from other world mythologies. But she won’t be completely alone, as Faye will be making new friends with a talking cube (almost straight out of Minecraft) and a sword sash.

God of War Laufey is only the franchise’s second spinoff game in the PS5 era after the retro and metroidvania-styled God of War Sons of Sparta. Sons of Sparta was shadow-dropped at its reveal at the February State of Play… to mixed reception. Don’t forget about the retro-styled spinoff’s reveal right after the announcement of the God of War Trilogy Remake presented by Terrence C. Carson, the original Kratos himself from the old Greek saga.

At any rate, fans will need to await Faye’s postmortem debut now set for May 2027.
